Tutoring

Tutoring as an activity designed to guide and assist students throughout their studies, making them active participants in the educational process and removing obstacles to successful course attendance, also through initiatives tailored to the needs, attitudes and requirements of individuals.

The Tutoring service provides assistance to students throughout their course of study, especially during the first three years. Both professors and fellow students act as tutors, and provide the following:

  • suggestions for the practical organisation of one's studies and information about the support services offered by the Politecnico di Milano;
  • assistance for students with educational issues and in relation to sitting exams;
  • support for students needing to fill in a few educational gaps.

The tutoring activities are divided into the following services:

Information and guidance tutoring

The orientation service for prospective first-year students is aimed at acquainting them with the educational and training activities present in the Courses of Study provided by the School to clarify the educational objectives and professional outlets: https://www.polimi.it/en/prospective-students.

For Polimi students, the service consists of guidance regarding the practical organization of studies (structure of curricula, organization of teaching, etc.) and the support facilities offered by the Polytechnic. This activity involves Master's degree student-tutors and technical administrative staff.

Peer to Peer Tutoring

The AUIC School offers students enrolled in a bachelor's degree program (or enrolled in the first three years of a single-cycle master's degree program) the opportunity to take advantage of Peer to Peer Tutoring.
The service is free of charge and involves assigning a tutor to students who request support in a particular subject. They can provide support through clarification-solving exercises and sharing their study method. Selected students provide tutoring and have a maximum duration of 15 hours.

Students intending to apply for support (tutee) can use the modalities communicated by e-mail from the School at the beginning of each semester.

Educational tutoring

Didactic Tutoring, organized directly by the Courses of Study, provides helpful interventions to eliminate the student's difficulties during the study and achieve profitable course attendance.
Tutoring provides support by activating forms of supplementary propaedeutic and remedial teaching, assisting in teaching specific topics where students show deficiencies or need in-depth study.
Interventions consist of supplementary and complementary lectures on official teachings (support cycles, tutorials, etc.) and classroom coaching, particularly in the case of Laboratories.
In the first case, students are informed through notices posted on the website http://www.auic.polimi.it/ and by sending communication via e-mail; in the second case, students will receive information from the referring teachers of the Laboratories.
Students carry out the service of Educational Tutoring- tutors of Master's degree, doctoral students, lecturers and external tutors.
