School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering

The School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering (AUIC) boasts a well-established tradition that since 1865 has combined architectural studies with engineering, following an educational model that has gained significant reputation both in Italy and abroad.

The School collects, unifies, and renews the experiences of the Milanese polytechnic tradition, building upon the rich heritage of the Masters who studied and taught at Politecnico, combining contributions from humanities and arts with those of exact sciences and techniques. In this way, the School combines the solid Milanese and Lombard tradition with the most innovative international experiences.

The School ranks among the top institutions in international sector rankings. Over time, its faculty has included prominent figures in architectural culture, urban planning, and construction engineering; among its graduates are leading designers active both in Italy and in the international context.

The School ranks among the top institutions in international sector rankings. The School's primary objective is to train graduates who are competent in the specific field of design and construction, capable of responsibly addressing problems that reality presents at multiple levels and across various themes: from buildings to interior spaces, from cities to territories, to landscapes, to cultural heritage.

The School views design as a synthesis of multiple knowledge domains, a founding principle of polytechnic culture, and trains graduates capable of unifying the various disciplines that responsibly contribute to the transformation of the physical environment.

Note: I've corrected the grammatical inconsistency in the original Italian text where it says "La Scuola intende la progettazione è come sintesi" (which contains a redundant "è") to make the English translation flow naturally.

Finally, the School is conceived as a place for producing knowledge as well as transmitting it, in line with the University's role of cultural anticipation and development, also with the aim of defining new professional roles capable of responding to the new demands of contemporary society and innovation in the construction world. Design is the center of the entire educational path, founded on knowledge and technical expertise but also on cultural awareness, understood as the ability to place design activity in a precise social, economic, and productive context. This design approach, in the face of an increasingly marked tendency toward specialization, should be able to operate within a broad perspective, critically engaging with society's pressing needs, economic influences, production requirements, ecological transition, and environmental sustainability.
